The life of the decrepit Arizona farmer Jim Hanson, who tries to make a living in an isolated border region by opposing evacuation orders, changes his life when he encounters Miguel and his mother Rosa, who are trying to escape from the drug cartel assassins led by the ruthless Mauricio. Caught in a shootout, Rosa begs former sniper navigator Jim to take her son with her family in Chicago. Challenging police girl Sarah, Jim sets out with Miguel, whom he sneaked out of the local US Customs and Border Patrol station.
